The Sunsisters' eclectic and diverse musical tastes are reflected in the original music of Paul Murphy (husband of Sunsister Jere Carroll) and Sunsister Helena Yates (in the band Local Juju). Though stylistically different, the musicians share a passion for engaging audiences with haunting sounds that come from the soul.
Paul Murphy
In the realm of avant-garde jazz, Paul Murphy is recognized as a drummer extrodinaire known for his speed and "zephyr-like style of sticking it" (Cadence Jazz "Red Snapper" review, 3/8/04). In 2006, he released his 22nd CD "The Powers of Two, Volume 2," sequel to the critically acclaimed "Powers of Two," with legendary pianist Larry Willis. Paul got his start in NYC in the 70's playing with various musicians, most notably as a member of Jimmy Lyons' band. Over the past few decades, he has played with a broad spectrum of artists including John Lee Hooker, Jaki Bayard, Sun Ra, Eddie Gale, and Joel Futterman - just to name a few. Paul has also played live with Ike and Tina Turner, Journey, in Las Vegas, and as a commercial studio and touring musician.

Local Juju
The Florida alternative or "art" rock band Local JuJu's sound has been described as a mixture of rock/grunge peppered with Celtic and folk undertones. However one labels their style, it is certain they have tapped into a captivating and artistic vision all their own. The group, a family affair, is made up of band members Helena Yates, husband Jeff Yates, and brother Jaime Tauler. In its short history, Local JuJu has already made an impressive impact on the central Florida music community and in 2003 was awarded "Most Poetic/Profound Song of the Year" by the Songwriter's Showcase of America. The band is currently in their Jelly Fish Head studio penning originals - including several pieces written with the screenplays for The Pyramid and January Peace in mind.
